JOE ZINICOLA

Joe Zinicola came to us from New York City where he was born on July 24, 1924. There he studied Business Administration at Syracuse University. His bowling career did not begin, how ever, until he came to our area after he had served five (5) years in the 178th Infantry Battalion during World War II.

Joe is a bachelor, but has one of the largest families of anyone we know a family of bowlers, due to his willing ness to give of his time and abilities and to get along and work with others. He is usually the first to answer a call for help from a fellow director or a fellow bowler, and unknown to many, has devoted much time and effort to the promotion, growth, and development of the game of bowling. Joe is a member of the Nation's Capital Area 700 Club as well as being one of its founders and his high series is 745 and he has carried a high average of 195. He has served as a league officer in all positions and has organized and sponsored leagues and teams for over 30 years. He was one of the originators of the Virginia Masters league and was its first Vice President. He was one of the originators and organizers of the first blind league in Northern Virginia.

After many years of promoting bowling Joe became a member of our Board four years ago, he has already advanced to a Vice President's position attesting to his abilities, hard work, and confidence of his fellow directors. Since coming on the Board, he has: created the "Life Membership" Award; sponsored the BVL; developed guidelines for state conventions; led in the fight for more cooperation from the establishments and promoted more harmony between the Association and Management; been a strong advocate of having more committee and Board meetings with more open discussions to receive a broader spectrum of thoughts and ideas; and finally Joe has given a new insight to the Program Evaluation Committee by completely reviewing all committees and re-writing many of their responsibilities and guidelines.

Joe is a man who has earned the unique accolade of "Hall of Fame Member" which is reserved for and conferred upon only those special people who have given greatly of themselves in the furtherance of the sport of bowling.
