JIM WRIGHT

Jim Wright began bowling as a teenager while working as a pin boy. He was taught the procedures of the game by his father, with whom he began league bowling at age 16. Jim started his local tenpin career in 1957 and was talked into becoming a league secretary by Chuck Gannon Sr., an NCABA Hall of Famer.

Jim was selected to the NCABA board as a director in July 1977 by Tom Morrone and was assigned to Fair Lanes Laurel, where he currently serves. In 1981, he was appointed fifth vice president by Earl Hickerson and ultimately ascended to the association presidency for the 1985-86 season via delegate vote.

He has attended every American Bowling Congress convention since 1978 and has bowled in every ABC Tournament since 1979. In 1982 and 1986, he served as director for the Virginia State Bowling Association Tournament.

Jim was chairman of the committee that created the Joint Hall of Fame with the Washington DC Area Women's Bowling Association. He co-chaired the first such event with Cornell Jackson of the WDCAWBA and has served on the Hall of Fame Committee each year since.

He also has chaired the following committees: Annual Meeting, Audit and Budget, Case Book, Legislative, Nominating, Program Evaluation, Public Relations, Suspension, Tournament Site Selection and Yearbook.

Outside of his official NCABA duties, Jim has served several leagues as president and others as secretary/treasurer, including one league at Laurel for 20 years. On the lanes, he is best known for winning the pro-am event of the 1989 Fair Lanes Open at Woodlawn.

Jim Wright's dedication to the sport of bowling and his overwhelming desire to serve the bowlers of this area make him a truly outstanding and deserving member of the NCABA Hall of Fame.
