Michael J. Warboy has been a long-time member of our association and has distinguished himself as both a scratch bowler and a leader in our sport. He started bowling in a youth league at Fair Lanes Bowie at age 12. Five years later in 1975, he set a Vir-Mar District Junior Bowling Association record with his 726 series on games of 217-276-233 at Bowie. In later years, he also established house records at Fair Lanes Capital Plaza, Crofton Bowling Centre, and nearby Bowl America Odenton and Brunswick Columbia Lanes.
Michael first averaged 200 at age 17. He has averaged over 220 for nearly each of the past 20 years, with a high league average of 236.5 for 96 games in the 2002-2003 season. He also has scored 24 perfect games, 14 800 series and has won five amateur tournaments.
As a member of the Professional Bowlers Association, Michael cashed in 20 PBA regional events, during which time he rolled a 300 game and an 800 series.
He started working at Bowlers General Store in Colesville, Md., in 1979. Three years later, he and his partner opened the Crofton Classic Pro Shop, which has become a thriving business located just steps outside of Crofton Bowling Centre. Michael’s business commitments often prevented him from competing in many PBA regional and area weekend tournaments, but he has made sure whenever possible to circle dates on his calendar for the association’s annual Championship Tournament.
In addition, Michael has taken time from his busy schedule to support numerous charities and causes. He has worked behind the scenes and literally on the lanes with Special Olympics bowlers for more than 15 years, and he often has donated items from his pro shop and requested that the value of his recent USBC honor score awards be sent to BVL. Last year, he was publicly thanked in BOWL Magazine for his generous equipment offer to support a breast cancer raffle that was conducted during the NCAUSBCA Annual Meeting.
While maintaining his own admirable bowling record, Michael J. Warboy has served area bowlers for over 30 years, coaching, consulting, and drilling their equipment. His ceaseless dedication to the sport of bowling and his continued support for the association and its membership make him a deserving addition to the NCAUSBCA Hall of Fame.
