Back to Hall of FameAnn Scoles, a native of Hyattsville, Md., has been a member of the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association for 18 years. She started bowling to keep her husband, Pat, company. They have been married for 20 years and have two sons. A computer programmer at Prince George's Community College, Ann has a bachelor's degree from Maryland.
Ann has been ranked in the WDCAWBA's Top 10 seven times, including the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons when she was the No. 1-ranked bowler. She has broken the 700 series barrier three times, with a high of 732. Ann rolled her highest game ever, a 299 at Fair Lanes Capital Plaza in 1988-89. She also has scored a 296 and a 290.
Ann has won three City Awards, including High Average in 1983 with a 191 and High Game in 1979 (279) and 1984 (290).
In the WDCAWBA City Tournament, she has five titles: 1975 "B" Division Scratch and Handicap Team; 1981 and 1985 “A” Division Scratch Team; and 1987 and 1988 “A" Division Scratch Doubles.
In the Virginia State Tournament, she won the 1975 “B" Division Handicap Singles and the 1977 “A” Division Scratch Team event.
Other titles include the 1983 Women's Middle Atlantic All-Stars Bowling Association Tournament in Heston, Va., and the 1984 Plaza Bowl Open in Lynchburg, Va. Also:
- In the Virginia Bowling Queens, Ann has two second-place finishes and seven other finishes in the top 10.
- In the Women's All-Star Association, she has a fourth-place finish among five "Top 10" finishes, and 15 in the top 25.
- In the prestigious WlBC Queens, Ann finished 17th in 1985 and 25th the following year.
This top bowler also found time to hold numerous league officer positions, including president of the Coca-Cola Ladies Tenpin League at Fair Lanes Capital Plaza (two years), secretary of the Wednesday Night Mixed Fours at Fair Lanes University (12 years) and the Friday Night Mixed Fours (10 years), also at University.
In addition, Ann has served as a YABA coach in the Adult/Youth League at University for 11 years.
For her outstanding performances on the lanes as a member of the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association, Ann Scoles is a most worthy addition to the WDCAWBA Hall of Fame.
