NORA KING

Nora King, a native of Uniontown, Pa., has lived in the Washington, D.C. area for 38 years. She has been married to her husband, Warren, for 34 years. They have a daughter, Nora, a son-in-law, Trevell, and two granddaughters, Shaniquewa Danielle, age 5, and Avionna Sharelle, age 3, both of whom participate in a youth league at Parkland Bowl.

Nora was elected to the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association board as a director in 1980 and currently is third vice president. She has served on all association committees, attended numerous in-house, local, state, and national workshops, and served as a delegate to both state and national conventions. She wrote the “Suzy Sez" association column in BOWL Magazine for eight years and helped establish an association newsletter. She is a member of the National Women Bowling Writers Association.

Nora attends all WDCAWBA annual and semiannual meetings and works many hours helping the association prepare for meetings and workshops anytime extra hands are needed.

She received the WDCAWBA President's Award in 1995 for promotion of the game of tenpins and her dedication in writing the association's column. She also has received Director of the Month and Officer of the Month awards.

Nora has organized several leagues, two of which are still bowling today. She has served in various league officer positions and worked on all league committees. She encourages bowlers to participate in local and state toumaments and stresses the importance of taking an active interest in association and league matters by attending meetings and voicing opinions and concerns.

She has been a member of the Greater Washington Bowling Senate for 20 years and served as its publicity chairman for six years. She also served on the Vir-Mar District Junior Bowling Association board for six years, was a youth coach, and is certified as a coach/instructor.

Nora has bowled for 38 years, starting with an office tenpin league at Pentagon City and then, after that center closed, at Fair Lanes Springfield. She currently is treasurer of both the Thursday Night Trios league at Andrews Air Force Base and the Washington, D.C. Area 600 Club.

Her bowling accomplishments include the 1971 Fair Lanes Summer Tour Doubles and lnter-City Championships, the 1987 Virginia State A Division Team Handicap Championship, the 1994 and 1995 600 Club Doubles Championships, and a bronze and a silver medal in the 1996 Maryland Senior Olympics. Her highest game is 279, with a high series of 689.

Nora King's longtime dedication and service to the bowlers and the WDCAWBA board have earned her a coveted berth in the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
