Back to Hall of FameLinda Elmore, a native of Holly Hill, South Carolina, has resided in this area since 1953. She graduated from Eastern Senior High School in the District ColIege in Boca Raton, Fla. She is employed as a senior evaluator with the U.S. General Acccounting Office.
She started bowling in college in 1969 and averaged 136 upon her return to the area. Over the years, her skill level increased as she became more involved in the sport through competition and participation in leagues and tournaments, and her service as a league officer and YABA coach.
Linda has volunteered with several commemorative functions held by the WDCAWBA, in particular the local celebration of WIBC's 75th anniversary. She is secretary of the Freespirits Traveling Bowling Club and a past director and convention delegate of the Greater Washington Bowling Senate of TNBA, as well as a staff member of the GWBS annual doubles tournament.
She coached members of the Silver Hill Strikers youth league for two years, and, when time permits, Linda continues to instruct interested bowlers.
Linda has rolled five 700 series, with a high of 715. Her high game is 290.
She received national recognition in 1991 when she qualified for the match-play finals of the Lady Fair Lanes Open at University. Locally, she has frequently qualified for the WDCAWBA rankings, including recent placements of 11th, sixth, and fourth. For 1991-1992, she received the WDCAWBA High Average Award (197) and an Honorable Mention Award from the Virginia State WBA.
In both 1990 (Grafton) and 1991 (Newport News), Linda captured Virginia Bowling Queens titles and doubles scratch championships in the WDCAWBA City Tournament. She also continued winning and cashing in the Bowl America Open Tour and Fair Lanes Summer Tour. In the 1992 Lilac Tournament in Rochester, N.Y., her team placed third.
In TNBA competition, she has won numerous titles, including the ladies scratch team event in the Eastern Regional and the National Tournament (twice), plus the 1988 National Tournament mixed team event. In addition, she's been a yearly Bill Rhodman Women's Scratch Classic finalist since 1986.
For her outstanding performances on the lanes and her unselfish contributions off of them, Linda Elmore is a deserving addition to the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
