FRANK DUNHAM

FRANK DUNHAM came to Washington in 1940, and being a bowler, he started bowling at the only lanes available in S.E. Washington. He soon joined with other interested bowlers and was one of the early promoters of tenpin bowling in this area promoting the game. Several years later, this same group became the Charter Members of the Washington City Tenpin Bowling Association formed at the Arcadia Lanes in Washington, D.C.

With the growth of our game and the opening of the first all tenpin establishment in Alexandria, Virginia, he joined a number of leagues and became one of the top bowlers in the area. For more than ten years, he carried the area's highest average or was rated in the top three. In 1956, he averaged over 200 in three leagues with a high of 203. For more than 12 years, his average was in the upper 190's.

His record of bowling accomplishments is long and impressive. Frank was the first bowler in the new association to record a perfect 300 game and he has more than 15 "700" series; the highest of which was a 760. Frank is a Charter Member of the Nation's Capitol "700" Club and has many titles including Team, Doubles and Singles and All Events in both City and State association tournaments. Frank contributed a 665 series while bowling with the famed Bauserman's team, which rolled a 3251 series - a record that still is the highest in the association.

Unofficial records indicate that Frank Dunham would have ranked as the Number One bowler in the area for many years had the present ranking program been in effect. His deep interest in the game resulted in his being elected to the association Board of Directors and in 1958, he was elected to the 4th Vice President and served with distinction. He was forced to resign when his government position required him to move to another city. On his return, he was again elected to serve and worked hard for the association for another two years.

Frank Dunham has served as a Washington City Tenpin Bowling Association delegate to the American Bowling Congress National Convention and has participated in 12 National Tournaments averaging over 190 for all tournament games bowled.

Frank's dedication to the game of tenpins, and his many outstanding accomplishments on the lanes has earned for him a nomination to this association's HALL OF FAME.
