Kinney-Alston duo wins
Youth 600 Club Fall Doubles Tournament

Alonso Kinney Jr. (662 series) of Clinton and Robert Alston (650) of Bowie combined for a 1,312 total to win the NCAUSBCA Youth 600 Club Fall Doubles Tournament held Dec. 2 at Bowl America Woodbridge. Each earned $100 in scholarship funds that will be administered through the USBC SMART program.

Kimberly Brown (646) and Peter Lujan (612) of Woodbridge took second-place honors with a 1,258 team series, and each earned $50 in scholarship funds. Antoine Kinney (641) of Clinton and Marcus Thorpe (612) of Alexandria placed third with 1,253 and earned $35 each in scholarship funds. Michael Worth (631) and Shawn Joffe (618) of Waldorf finished fourth with 1,249 and earned $25 each in scholarship funds.

Bowlers with the top eight individual series qualified for the Tournament of Champions, which will be held March 5. Joining past qualifier Alonso Kinney Jr.: 1) Rawlin Jefferson of Woodbridge, 688; 2) Alston, 650; 3) Brown, 646; 4) Bruce Hanson Jr. of Sterling, 643; 5) Antoine Kinney, 641; 6) Worth, 631; 7) Jeremy Crookston of Woodbridge, 626; and 8) Bobby Middleton Jr. of Waldorf, 619.

Alonso Kinney Jr. wins 600 Club Fall Singles Tournament

November 5, 2007 — Alonso Kinney Jr. of Clinton bowled a three-game series of 710 to win the NCAUSBCA Youth 600 Club Fall Singles Tournament held yesterday at at U.S. Bowling. Kinney earned $125 in scholarship funds, which will be administered through the USBC SMART program.

Adam Mitchell of Chantilly bowled a 700 series to capture second-place honors and earn a $85 scholarship. Alex Valentin of Alexandria bowled a 688 series for third place and earned a $60 scholarship. Allen Windsor of Woodbridge bowled a 652 series for fourth place and earned a $35 scholarship.

All four bowlers qualified for the Tournament of Champions, which will be held in March. In addition, Jaclyn Windsor of Ashburn (651 series) and Tyra Windyboy of Falls Church (649) also qualified for the Tournament of Champions.

  • Game 2: Kinney, 280.
  • Game 3: Valentin, 286.


    The next 600 Club Tournament will be a doubles event on December 2, 2007 at 2 p.m.

    Helmrich wins 600 Club Tournament of Champions

    March 4, 2007 — Fourth seed Eric Helmrich (left) of St. Leonard, Md., defeated top seed Allen Windsor of Woodbridge, Va., 259-215 to win the 17th annual NCAUSBCA Youth 600 Club Tournament of Champions this afternoon at Bowl America Woodbridge. Helmrich averaged 219 for 14 games.

    Helmrich defeated fifth seed Keisheena Waldon of Seat Pleasant, Md., 244-234 in the first stepladder match (which followed a six-game qualifier and four games of match play) and then defeated third seed Alonso Kinney Jr. of Clinton, Md., 238-227 and second seed John Kolessides of Great Falls, Va., 224-193 before defeating defending champion Windsor.

    The Tournament of Champions awarded $1,450 in scholarship money to the five finalists. Windsor earned $600; Artis, $350; Helmrich, $250; Kinney, $150; and Middleton, $100. All scholarship funds will be administered through the USBC SMART program.

    Other match play finalists: 6, Adam Mitchell, Chantilly, Va., $50 scholarship; 7, Maurice Lee, D.C.; 8, Antoine Kinney, Clinton; 9, Shawn Joffe, Waldorf, Md.; 10, Maceo Bacote, Clinton; 11, Dennis Fulton, Woodbridge; and 12, Bobby Middleton Jr., Waldorf.

    Wayne Artis of Waldorf lost a roll-off to Middleton 226-221 for the last match play spot. Artis earned $25 in scholarship money.

    Alonso Kinney Jr. was top qualifier with a 1,431 six-game total, earning $50 in scholarship money. Antoine Kinney had the high game in qualifying with a 269, earning $25 in scholarship money.

    A total of 33 bowlers participated in the tournament, and it took an average of 207.3 for six games to advance to match play.
