PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Kirk S. Williams

April / May 2009

Changes ahead in 2009-2010

We had a very productive membership meeting February 22 at the Holiday Inn Eisenhower Metro Center in Alexandria, and I would like to thank those who attended. By now, you may have heard that local dues will go up next year by one dollar—the first increase we have asked for in 10 years.

Meanwhile, youth dues will increase to $17, and there will be an extra membership classification added to the youth program: Beginning August 1, a Basic Membership, for bowlers in leagues of 12 weeks or less at a cost of $5 per short-season league, will be available in addition to the Standard and Junior Gold memberships.

I recently attended a USBC Town Hall Meeting in Linthicum, Md., that offered plenty of ideas for youth bowlers, including Bowlopolis, USBC’s fun site for kids.

If you have questions about any of the changes in the youth program, you can contact USBC.

On March 2—eight days after NCAUSBCA held its membership meeting—USBC revealed its proposed amendments on bowl.com. It was pointed out at the Town Hall Meeting that withholding the proposed amendments until March was too late for some local associations to consider these amendments at its membership meetings. Amendments B-5 to B-7 are of importance because they involve dues increases:

There are also six proposed league rule changes and eight proposed national bylaws changes, plus five state bylaws and five local bylaws changes. Click here to see all of the proposed legislation.

We recently completed the local women’s and youth tournaments and are in the process of working the women’s state and the local open tournament. I hope that you compete in as many as you can.

We are coming to the end of the winter league season, and while I hope your league president has performed monthly audits, your league’s audit committee—appointed by the president—should perform the final audit required for USBC bonding support so that the money will be there for your payouts.

USBC has started a Rewards Program. Click here and register; there are deals at Target and Dell to name two of the participating companies.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I will do my best to get you an answer.
