PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Thomas E. Dale Jr.

April / May 2007

2007-2008 board includes three new members

We held our annual membership meeting March 25 at the Holiday Inn Eisenhower Metro Center in Alexandria. The main purpose of the annual meeting was to elect officers and directors for the following season, elect delegates to state meetings and the USBC Convention, and vote on any proposed rule and bylaws changes for our local association. Although only 84 members were in attendance, we were able to conduct our business through a suspension of the rules. Our current bylaws require at least 100 members to be present. As a result of suspending the rules, we were able to pass a bylaws change that lowered the quorum to 50 members for future meetings. We will need to ratify that action at the next annual meeting.

We also elected three new members to the board—Darron Mayes of Waldorf, Sharon Weber of Clinton, and Victor Pringle of Riverdale. All nine incumbents on the ballot were reelected to two-year terms: Robert Ashley III of Centreville, Hazel Beatty and Gene O. Mays of the District, Judith Butler and James B. Stewart of Hyattsville, Phyllis Cook of Silver Spring, Ronald Holton of Alexandria, Hazel Wallace of Dale City, and Kirk Williams of District Heights.

Meanwhile, the existing officers—Jane Andrews and Yvonne Humphries of the District, Kristen Robinson of Fairfax, Lee Johnson of Midland, Va., Jonathan Emery of Fort Washington, and yours truly—were elected to a one-year term.

Local delegates just returned from the annual USBC Convention, which was held in Nashville, Tenn., at the end of March. There were many educational seminars and workshops, and the first national election of board members took place. In addition, Adam Mitchell, our youth director on the NCAUSBCA board, wrote a blog for the convention.
