PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Bill Grover

May 2005

Leagues need dedicated delegates

Missed you in February. Did we see you at the City Tournament?

The annual Council of Delegates Meeting has come and gone. Only 65 leagues out of over 500 in the association were represented at the meeting, and several of these representatives were members of the NCABA board of directors. This meeting is a great opportunity for league officers to participate in the activities of your association.

Next year, ask your league secretary who the league is submitting as your representative to the Council of Delegates Meeting. Encourage these individuals to nominate someone who cares enough to actually attend the meeting.

I would like to congratulate Kirk Williams for his election as president of your association for the 2005-2006 season and Lee Johnson for his election as fifth vice president.

The Council of Delegates voted last year to allow NCABA to look into a possible merger with the Washington, D.C. Area Women’s Bowling Association and the Vir-Mar-District Junior Bowling Association. This year, your Council of Delegates followed the recommendations of the NCABA board and voted in favor of the merger.

We are in the process of forming a transition team to lead our association through the merger process on the way to becoming a merged United States Bowling Congress association. This will be a major undertaking, requiring many hours of intense labor for the volunteers who are elected to the transition team. We hope that the merger will be completed by the start of the 2006-07 season.

It was announced at the USBC Convention in Baton Rouge, La., that Dallas again led the nation in BVL collections this past season. NCABA and WDCAWBA finished second. Virginia was the leading state in donations submitted directly to the BVL.

I’d like to note the efforts of some non-board members who assist in collecting for the BVL:

These are just some examples of the generosity of our bowlers. Please give generously at your house. Dates to remember: Nominations for the NCABA Hall of Fame are due by May 1. The Guys and Dolls Tournament runs the first two weekends in June at Crofton. Secretaries must submit their final averages to the NCABA office as soon as possible after the completion of their league.
