PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Thomas Allen

August/September 2001

Groundwork set
for many changes to come

First things first: I would like to thank Vince Jozwiak for all his hard work and dedication to NCABA, not only last season as president but for the many years he has served on the board of directors.

This past year laid the groundwork for many changes to come in the bowling industry—not only in the NCABA but also at Bowling Headquarters. The 2001-2002 season will mark the year of Sport Bowling, a level of sanctioned league and tournament competition emphasizing bowler skill and not high-tech equipment. It will be rolled out in August as an optional sanctioned competition.

There will be a Sport Bowling league soon forming at Fort Meade. If you would like to add a team or just join yourself, please contact center manager Dean Ryan at 301/677-5541 for additional information.

If you would like to know more about Sport Bowling, feel free to contact me, the association office, or you can log onto sportbowling.com.

NCABA is preparing for personnel changes, an office move, and possible consolidation of offices and services with WDCAWBA this season. We will host the Virginia State Tournament at Bowl America Bull Run and Bowl America Chantilly. NCABA officials worked hard to secure the tournament, and my hope is that we will hit record numbers for participation.

Many of you have talked to Bud Smith over the years at the association office, but Bud has retired and will be missed. Director Ray Webb has been approved by the board of directors for the position of assistant executive director, and I know he will do his best to fill Bud’s shoes.

A new feature on this site will be the Bowler-to-Bowler Yellow Pages. This is dedicated to businesses that are willing to give a discount and/or additional value to bowlers for their services.

With the beginning of a new season, it is important that league officers pay special attention to several items that will help your league run smoothly and help the office provide timely service:

I wish you all a great season of fun, competition, and new friendships. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, you can E-mail me or call (703/759-7286), and I will try to assist you in any way possible.
