PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Michael Tinsley

January / February 2019

Lane reps play a vital role
in the success of many leagues

As we all get back into the swing of bowling in this new year, there are a couple of things that I would like to point out. First is your lane representative, who serves as a liaison between the association office and a center’s bowling leagues. Each center within the association is assigned a lane representative, and most centers will normally have more than one.

A lane rep:

The next thing I would like to discuss is BVL (The Bowlers to Veterans Link), the purpose of which is to acquire funds for disabled and hospitalized veterans for recreational and therapeutic equipment and/or activities. During the BVL Fund Drive, lane reps will visit their assigned centers to collect BVL donations. Funds collected will be turned in to the association office and ultimately submitted to BVL Headquarters during the month of May.

Each association competes to see who can raise the most money for this worthy cause, and our association usually places in the Top 5 of all USBC local associations thanks to your generous donations.

One other thing claims my attention: the Annual Membership Meeting. Your local association conducts this meeting for all of its members, and it is held for the express purpose of exposing members to the interworking of the association’s board of directors.

The meeting will include a discussion on the budget, the election of association officers and of Virginia State and USBC delegates, as well as the approval or disapproval of any amendments that are presented by the USBC Legislative Committee. Lunch will be served, and raffles are held.

Our 13th Annual Membership Meeting will be held Sunday, February 24, 2019 on the second floor of the NCAUSBCA Office Building, located at 9315 Largo Drive West in Largo, Md.
