PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Willie Graves Jr.

Summer 2018

Last roll as president

Many of you may not be aware that my turn as president of NCAUSBCA will end on July 31, 2018. It has certainly been my pleasure, and a blast and joy to have served in this position to all of the bowlers in this great association. I certainly hope that everyone is extremely pleased with the work your association has done over the past several years on your behalf.

I would like to thank all who have supported me during my three-plus years as president, especially the association’s staff managed by Ron McGregor for its outstanding support and work in and out of the office and for meeting all required tasks and functions successfully and timely. I also would like to extend my thanks to the board of directors, whose members have worked to address issues and act as your voice at our monthly board meetings, the Virginia State meeting, and at the USBC convention.

It is very important to all of us that you as a bowler and member of this association participate in our Annual Meeting, for this will allow representatives from your board the opportunity to voice your concerns to both the state and USBC. Remember, information gathered during this meeting will be passed on to be addressed. Take time now to mark Sunday, February 24, 2019 on your calendar—the date for next season’s Annual Meeting.

Please also note that your association has improved its Web site offerings with more information regarding association events as well as upcoming changes mandated by USBC. Your association also will continue to improve its awards program, which I hope adds more value to your bowling experience.

As a reminder, new specifications have been established for the oil absorption rate of bowling ball cover stocks and for the elimination of balance holes, while increasing static weight allowances for bowling balls. Although this change will not go into effect immediately, it will impact most of us during the next year. When the official date is released, I strongly suggest you not wait until the last minute to have your bowling balls corrected.

In conclusion, I would like to thank each of you for your support because it is greatly appreciated. I wish everyone continued success in bowling and in life, and always remember that strikes are great, but spares are very important too.
