PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Willie Graves Jr.

January / February 2017

The last sponsored association tournament for 2016, the NCA-USBCA 7th Annual Mixed Tournament in Support of BVL (Bowlers to Veteran Link), has been completed, and highlights from the event appear in this issue. We certainly would like to extend our many thanks and appreciation to all who came out in support of this worthwhile event. It should be especially helpful to know that this tournament provides aid to our veterans who have given and sacrificed so much so that we can to continue to enjoy the freedoms of democracy.

For those of you who missed the opportunity to bowl in several of the association’s tournament offerings in 2016, you will have another opportunity to participate in NCAUSBCA-sponsored tournaments in early 2017. In March, we will conduct the 72nd Annual Women’s Championship Tournament at Rinaldi’s Riverdale Bowl, followed by the 72nd Annual Open Championship Tournament at Bowl America Shirley (team) and Bowl America Gaithersburg (singles & doubles) in April.

It is time for each of you to start making plans with family, friends, and others to join us in these tournaments that should be very exciting. So please mark your calendars and get your teammates and doubles partners together.

Another important event being held in the first quarter is the Nation’s Capital Area USBC Association’s 11th Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting will be held at Bowl America Gaithersburg on February 26 and is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., with lunch and refreshments being served prior to the start of the meeting (see page 7). Please come out to vote for several members of your board of directors that will serve you starting August 1, 2017, vote on USBC proposed rule changes that we will be governed by and association-recommended policy changes that will also govern how the board of directors operates. Remember: This is your association, and your vote does count.

In closing, it is my hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday season. If you should have questions, please feel free to contact me at president@ncausbca.org. See you at the tournaments, and always remember to keep those balls striking.
