Final averages deadline approaches

It’s that time of year when we have to remind secretaries to provide us with the final averages for their league at season’s end or by June 1, whichever comes first. It seems every year we have to beg some secretaries to submit the final averages, as is required by USBC Rule 102(e)9.

Directors Diane Frelke, Hazel Wallace, and Barbara Vaughan had their first taste of managing the association championship tournaments—youth, senior, and women, respectively. They all did a commendable job and found out what those of us who have done it know: lots of hours of preparation and several complaints from bowlers. Ms. Vaughan had the problem of having to move from one center to another at the last minute and did so with little difficulty. Each of these directors deserves kudos.

Summer leagues will start in the next few weeks. Just a reminder to summer secretaries: If a bowler receives an award in the winter league, he/she does not qualify for the same award in the summer unless the score is bowled after July 31, 2007.

A section of the roof at Bowl America Falls Church fell this winter and caused some problems for leagues that moved to other centers to complete their season. If your league moved and you have a problem, get in touch with me, and we will work out a solution.

In addition, secretaries of the Falls Church leagues also should contact me if any of you have questions in reference to final averages.

I hope all of you have a nice summer and get back in the swing of things this fall.
