PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Steve Graves

December 2002/January 2003

Do we need SMO?

What is SMO?

It’s a joint membership of the American Bowling Congress, the Women’s International Bowling Congress, the Young American Bowling Alliance, and USA Bowling into a single governing body that will be known as the United States Bowling Congress. On Nov. 2, each of these four bowling organizations voted to go ahead with a single membership organization plan.

Do we need single membership?

It would eliminate some of the smaller associations and combine them with larger ones. It also could eliminate women bowling in any men's sanctioned tournaments. Is this what we want? (Editor's Note: This column was written prior to the release of the United States Bowling Congress/Single Membership Organization Final Report. Please visit bowl.com to view this report.)

Think about it, and come voice your opinion Feb. 23 at the 59th annual NCABA Council of Delegates Meeting at the Willow Tree Inn Restaurant on the Montgomery Village Golf Course in Gaithersburg.

I would like to wish all of you the happiest holiday season.
