April 6, 2024 — NCAUSBCA has learned that former director Phyllis Bourque, La Plata, Md., died March 27 at age 80.
Bourque served on the association's board from 2020 to 2023, when she left due to health issues. Nevertheless, she still visited AMF Waldorf this season and collected over $1,000 from league bowlers for BVL. For at least the past seven seasons, she collected more money for bowling's official charity than any other individual association official.
Among her numerous positions in bowling, she previously served in California as president of the North County USBC, North County YABA, California State YABA, and the Avocado Women's Bowling Association. A Hall of Fame member of the Avocado WBA, Southeast District YABA, and the Southern California Writers, she also was a Bronze Level Coach, a Junior Olympic Instructor, and a certified lane inspector.
