MANAGER’S MEMO / Ronald McGregor

November/December 2015

New awards program ready to begin

Awards

Our new awards have finally arrived and soon will be ready for presentation in your leagues. This is just the beginning, as we plan to add end-of-the-year awards as well as something for the Top 10 and high average bowlers. The awards program is now funded totally by our lottery fund-raiser, so Buy! Buy! Buy! and get three chances per ticket to win each day during the month of December. All credible ideas for future award offerings are welcome.

USBC / Local Plans

The debate over the Sport/challenge shot and the impact on bowling has begun; your comments are invited. Is this better or worse for league bowling? Are more leagues going to the challenge pattern because their bowlers are looking for a challenge? How will tournament mangers handle the change? Some have already begun to implement the challenge pattern for their tournaments. The national USBC Open Championships Tournament has used a Sport pattern for a few years now and plans to change the average definition in 2017. They will add a super division for bowlers averaging 210 and above.

Tournament Season

The Senior Tournament was recently completed, and the Mixed Tournament in Support of BVL will be held December 5-6 at Bowl America Shirley. Bowlers can check our Calendar of Events page for all upcoming events, and if you “Like Us” on Facebook, you will receive notification of all posted association news.

Hall of Fame

This year’s event was well attended, and judging by the comments we have received, it was well liked by all. Kudos to Hall of Fame chair Judi Butler and her team for making this a memorable event for the members of the “Class of 2015” — Arlen “Yogi” Holmes and Billy Slater — and for those who attended.

I am sure you can think of people you believe have made a valuable contribution to local bowling and are worthy of inclusion, so please get your nomination in to us soon, as the deadline date of April 30 is rapidly approaching.

League Bowling

League bowling is in full swing, prize lists have been approved, the Audit Committee is ready to conduct the first audit, and ... the Postponement Committee is in place—yes? I see this may be a colder and snowier winter, according to the Farmers’ Almanac.
