Required tasks are performed
in successful leagues

I hope you all enjoyed your summer and took some time to stop and smell the roses.

Fall leagues are now starting, and it’s really important for team captains and league officers to attend the league organizational meeting. It’s better to make changes to the old league rules now than trying to fix things later.

Things that will affect your league’s bonding:

• I can’t stress enough that the league’s board of directors, the team captains, and league officers make the decisions on how the league is governed. League officers cannot make such decisions without consulting the board of directors.
• The bank statement must be sent to the league president, who must review the statement for accuracy.
• League applications must be forwarded to the association office within 30 days of the league starting date. League secretaries who delay this process jeopardize their league members’ ability to receive awards and could affect their tournament eligibility and USBC status.
• The league president must appoint an audit committee, prize committee, and should appoint a postponement committee.

Secretaries: Please see that your bowlers complete their membership application cards completely and legibly. Remind them that efforts are under way to distribute news about upcoming tournaments and events to those who include their eMail address. Such information already is made available to those who have clicked “Like” on our Facebook page.

All members should make sure their league officers carry out their duties and fulfill the trust placed upon them—especially those officers receiving payment. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Tournaments this season include:

• 31st Annual Senior Tournament – October 20-21 and 27-28 at Bowl America Falls Church. New this year is a 50-54 age division.
• 3rd Annual Mixed Tournament in Support of BVL – November 3-4 and 10-11 at Bowl America Bull Run.
• Mix or Match Scratch Doubles Tournament – February 2 (site TBD).
• 50th Annual Youth Championship Tournament – March 2-3 and 9-10 at Bowl America Shirley.
• 68th Annual Women’s Championship Tournament – March 2-3, 16-17, and 23-24 at AMF Annandale.
• 68th Open Championship Tournament – April 6-7, 13-14, and 21-22 at Bowl America Fairfax and Bowl America Falls Church.

Awards have changed: The magnets you have all grown to love have been replaced with bag tags. However, do not despair; we still have a supply of magnets, so you will receive a magnet along with the bag tags until we exhaust our supply of magnets.
