MANAGER’S MEMO / Ray Brothers

Tournament checks coming soon;
new committee means business

The association’s Championship Tournaments all have concluded, and checks for those who cashed soon will appear in mailboxes. I hope all who participated enjoyed the experience. Be watching this publication and on ncausbca.org to find out when and where the tournaments will be held next year.

If you are able, consider signing up for the opening team squads. The opening ceremonies are a lot of fun and include games of skill with a bowling ball for a chance to win money.

This season, President Williams appointed a Rerate Committee to look into the practice of “average management” by some of our bowlers. The committee has been busy, and as of this date, nine members of this association have been assigned new averages, with eight rerates now in effect.

The committee is gathering information on other bowlers at this time and will continue to look at any and all complaints it receives reference someone managing his or her average. The purpose of the committee is to protect honest bowlers from those who are unscrupulous during league play to benefit when bowling in tournaments.

A warning to those who are managing their average: From this point on, someone likely will report you to the committee, so it’s best that you stop this practice. If you are a league secretary and have not been contacted for or received a request for submission of final averages, please contact the office. We want to collect all the averages so that they all appear in our Annual Averages book.

I want to thank outgoing President Williams for all his support and help for the past two years and at the same time welcome our president-elect, Bob Ashley. I look forward to working with him in the future years.

When your league has its organizational meeting for the new season, be sure to attend so that you may have some input into the league’s rules.

To all of you traveling this summer, keep the shiny side up and between the ditches. Have a great summer.
