MANAGER’S MEMO / Ray Brothers

April / May 2009

Final averages deadline approaches

The holidays are over, we have a new President, and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. For those of you that don’t know who Punxsutawney Phil is, he is a fury little rodent called a ground hog. According to folklore, he is able to predict weather. Each February 2, he comes out of his burrow on Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney Pa.; if he sees his shadow, winter will last another six weeks.

We recently sent out letters advising secretaries of bowlers that had not paid their membership dues for the season. As of this writing, there are still a lot of secretaries who have not addressed the problem. If leagues knowingly allow bowlers who have not paid membership fees to compete in competition, the game(s) in which they participate can be forfeited.

The end of leagues is fast approaching, and we will ask secretaries to provide the final averages of the bowlers in your leagues. These averages are very important and are used by the bowlers to compete in tournaments. It is also the responsibility of the secretary to send the averages of all bowlers in the league to the local association when the league competition has been concluded. Failure to do so could result in a suspension.

The Annual Meeting will be held February 22 at the Holiday Inn Eisenhower Metro Center. All attendees will be served lunch at noon, and the meeting will begin at 1 p.m. All members of the association are invited to attend and hear what is happening in your association. The officers and directors of the association will be elected at this meeting.
