November 2007

Locals continue to score
on national stage

Let me start off by congratulating some local bowlers who did well in national tournaments. Howard Jones Jr. of Damascus, Md., and Anthonius Magturo of Derwood, Md., came in second in the doubles event of the Classified Division of the USBC Open Tournament held in Reno, Nev.

Meanwhile, as noted last issue, the “Ladies on a Roll I” team (Sonja Scott, Lee Anne Bailey, Yvonne Smith, Pamela Gunn, and LaShan Payton) from the Shirley Park Strikers took first place in Division 1 in the USBC Women’s Championships Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. In that same tournament, LaVonnie Giles of Waldorf won the All Events title in Division 1, and Sherri Thompson of Waldorf and Lorriane Golson of Cheverly won the Doubles Event in Division 3.

A note to league secretaries: When submitting award forms for honor scores, please include the scores of all games bowled in the spaces provided.

November is BVL (Bowlers to Veterans Link) month. The kickoff took place November 3 at the Naval Medical Bowling Center in Bethesda. All lane directors should be around to visit your league and solicit money to support the veterans.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This is the time for families to get together and give thanks. When you sit down to the traditional dinner of turkey, sweet potato dressing, and all the other great dishes, remember those that are not as fortunate as you are. I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving—just save me a piece of pumpkin pie.
