EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MEMO / Ray Brothers

Summer 2006

Some things haven’t changed:
Please get those final averages in!

Another bowling season has come to an end, and ironically, so has the Nation’s Capital Area Bowling Association. As of May 31, the association ceased to exist after 61 years of service to the bowlers in this area.

A new association, the Nation’s Capital Area USBC Association, began operations on June 1. The United States Bowling Congress—USBC—is the name selected for the merged association of ABC, WIBC, YABA, and USA Bowling for those of you who haven’t already been told.

I have been hired as the “association manager” of the new association, so you should see very little change in the membership process. I will hire a staff, so if you are interested in working in the office, send me a little note. In my first column of the new season, I will announce the office staff and their duties.

There may be some bumps along the way, but we will have things going smoothly before long. It is sad to see this fine organization go, but if we work together, we can make the new one just as good.

So that the new association starts off on the right foot, I am asking—begging—that all secretaries send the final averages from their league to the association office. If you have already done so, thank you very much.

I also want to remind summer league secretaries that the membership fees are now $19—the national dues are $10, the local dues are $8, and the state dues are $1.

I hope you all have a great summer and work on your games for next season.
