MANAGER’S MEMO / Ronald McGregor

January / February 2017

Have your league funds been audited?

You should be about halfway through your season right now, so hopefully you have already had an audit of league funds or are in the process of getting the results from an audit. I am sure we are going to get the usual calls about missing funds and an inability to meet the prize fund payout, believe it or not, sometimes from the same league—go figure. It is also a good idea to keep track of the things that caused some grief so that you can amend the league rules accordingly next season. Most problems can be avoided if the already-in-place league rules are followed.

LOCAL AWARDS

Have you met your lane director yet? He/she will be happy to present your league awards, just ask. The award forms can be found in the “Secretary’s Corner” on the NCAUSBCA Web page along with the “Bonus Awards” form. Yes, we still have the bag tags and magnets you have come to love. Meanwhile, the Youth Honor Score Awards program recently was approved, and the forms can be found in the Secretary’s Corner. The “league champs” awards will be sent to each league soon, and don’t forget: We also have the “Triple Crown Award” in place for youths and adults.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership (adult/youth) continues to decline at the four-to-six percent range each season; consequently, the local association holds fund-raisers to supplement the lost revenue, such as the recent bus trip to the Rocky Gap Resort as well as the raffle offerings. The next such raffle is slated for May 2017, and I hope you will consider supporting this cause: Each $10 lottery ticket provides its owner 93 chances of winning during the month!

If you have any ideas on how to get more folks interested in league bowling, please let us know, perhaps at the association’s Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Bowl America Gaithersburg.

TOURNAMENTS

As there are about 300 adult leagues in this association, how wonderful it would be if we had each league send one team to the association tournament … talk about the glory days of bowling. Information on all of the association tournaments can be found on our Web and Facebook pages.

As always, you are encouraged to talk with your lane representative, who can share more details on the upcoming events. Your league may wish to sponsor a team and maybe share the prize money when it comes up a big winner! I’m sure the league can come up with creative ways to pay for the entry, 50/50 contests, etc.
