Las Vegas — Steve Sanders’ Pinacle Events and Mo Pinel’s MoRich Bowling Products are kicking off Super Bowl Megabuck Week 2006 with an exciting new event: The MoRich Mixed Doubles National Championship. This all new event guarantees $100,000 in prize money and a big $16,000 top prize with only 250 entries. It will roll Super Bowl Weekend, February 3-5, at the beautiful Orleans Bowling Center, Hotel and Casino, prior to the 5th Annual Super Bowl Mini Eliminator, which will follow February 6-12.
The MoRich Mixed Doubles is open to all male and female bowlers except the PBA exempt players and those who have won more than one PBA national tour title since 1995. All women are eligible, including PBA members and former PWBA members and champions. The only restriction is that two national pro champions cannot bowl together on the same team.
The format is pure and simple. There will be eight 3-game qualifying squads starting Friday, February 3, and ending Sunday morning, February 5. One in four teams will cash, and 1-in-8 will make the finals. The top finisher in the eight qualifying squads will by-pass the 2-game semi-final round, and will square off with eight teams emerging from the semi finals in the first round of the finals. The semi-finals and matchplay finals (best 2-of-3 format) featuring the top 16 teams will roll immediately following the Super Bowl on Sunday evening at approximately 7:00 p.m. (PST). During the football game, the Orleans will provide a ‘Bowlers Only’ Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tournament open to all MoRich and Mini Eliminator bowlers.
With 250 total entries in the eight qualifying squads, a minimum of 63 teams will cash. Places 33-63 will win $800, double the $400 entry fee. All semi-finalists, places 17-32 will cash for $1,000, and all finalists (top 16) will earn $1,500 each. Places 5-8 pay $2,000 each, teams making it to the final four will cash for at least $4,000 each, and the top two teams will square off in the championship match for $16,000 and $8,000. If there are more than 250 entries, prizes will be increased.
“We are very proud to team up with Mo Pinel to offer this new event,” said Pinacle Events President Steve Sanders. “It’s as much for the fans as it is for the players,” he continued. “It will give them a chance to see the great women pros, the non-exempt PBA guys, and the top international and Team USA players we don’t get to see as much as we would like to these days.” Sanders plans to make the MoRich Mixed Doubles National Championship an annual event to precede his annual Super Bowl Mini Eliminator, which now has a new "Open Division" for PWBA and non-exempt PBA pros.
The MoRich Mixed Doubles National Championship is presented by Pinacle Events, owners of the Mini Eliminators, and MoRich Bowling Products.
