NCABA members will not be among the official cashers at the 48th annual American Bowling Congress Masters currently underway at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.
National Amateur Champion and current TEAM USA member John Gaines of Davidsonville, Md., scored 2,078 for 10 games to place 178th in the 624-bowler field, the highest finish among area bowlers. Other local participants included:

· 369. Charles Whittington III, Annapolis (1,977).
· 414. Michael Asbury, Rockville (1,940). Asbury was the 1997 NCABA Scratch All Events champion.
· 532 (tie). Bruce McClung, Dumfries, Va. (1,854).
· 563. John Tragert, Germantown (1,829).
