August 9, 1996: Pete Couture defeats top seed Roger Tramp, 244-204, to win his first PBA senior title at the Reno Senior Open held at the National Bowling Stadium. John Hricsina, who finished third, tossed a perfect game against Avery Leblanc in the second game of the championship match.


August 9, 1990: Amleto Monacelli upsets Walter Ray Williams Jr., 222-203, in the title match of the Wichita Open. It was Monacelli's eighth PBA title. Williams had led the field by 331 pins.


August 9, 1989: Jim Pencak wins four matches, including a 231-218 conquest of Dave Ferraro in the final contest, to win the La Mode Classic in Green Bay, Wis. It is Pencak's first PBA title.


August 9, 1983: Marshall Holman bombs top seed Kent Wagner, 290-224, to capture the Venice (Fla.) Open—his second consecutive PBA title and No. 16 of his career.
