July 8, 1987: Scott Devers, who led the Miller Lite Challenge in Tucson, Arizona by a whopping 411 pins, wins his first PBA title by defeating Marc McDowell, 234-206, in the championship match. Devers, in his second championship round appearance in three tournaments, had an impressive 20-4 match play record.


July 8, 1980: Steve Cook, who checks in at 6'6", mashes 5'4" Paul Moser, 269-180, in the title match of the U.S. Polychemical Open in Fresno, Calif., to record his second PBA title.


July 8, 1974: Earl Anthony wins his second consecutive tournament—and fourth in six events—at the PBA Fresno (Calif.) Open. After 42 games, his margin of victory is 61 pins over runner-up Dave Davis.
