July 7, 1990: Ron Palombi avenges his championship match loss one week earlier by defeating top seed Todd Thompson, 219-173, in the title match of the Fair Lanes Phoenix Open. It is Palombi's fifth PBA victory.

July 7, 1981: Tom Baker, who set a PBA qualifying record with his 247.2 average for 42 games, scores only 191 in the title match of the Denver Open, but it is enough to top fifth seed Art Trask, who only could manage a 178 game. Baker wins his fourth PBA title and third consecutive tournament in which he has competed.
