GREENDALE, Wis. (May 6, 2004) -- College Bowling USA has announced the participants for the 2004 Collegiate Singles Championship to be held at Olympic Lanes in Milwaukee, May 21-22. The event will feature the top 16 male and top 16 female collegiate bowlers in the country competing for national collegiate singles titles.
The event replaces the Association of College Unions International Men’s and Women’s National Championships as the premier individual college bowling event supported by CBUSA and sponsored by the American Bowling Congress and Women’s International Bowling Congress.

Qualifying for the national event was held in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships Sectional Qualifiers on March 19 at the Bowling Palace in Downington, Pa., located near Philadelphia; Eastland Lanes in Lexington, Ky.; Lunar Bowl in Blue Springs, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City; and AMF Tempe Village in Tempe, Ariz. All participants bowled six games of competition with total pinfall determining final standings. The top four finishers in each division (male and female) at each IBC Sectional Qualifier site advanced to the Collegiate Singles Championship.
At the national finals, all 16 participants in each division will bowl eight games of qualifying to determine seeding for the match play competition. In the match play portion of the event, participants will compete in a best-of-five, single-elimination bracket, with winners in each division being crowned as champions of the 2004 Collegiate Singles Championship. The male division winner will receive the Joe Norris Trophy in honor of the legendary Joe Norris, while the female division winner will receive the Marion Ladewig Trophy in honor of the great Marion Ladewig. The male and female champions will also earn automatic berths into the 2005 USA Bowling National Amateur Championships.
Eligible participants must be a full-time student enrolled in the Spring 2004 semester at a higher education institution (a minimum of 12 credit hours undergraduate or six credit hours graduate required); posses a CBUSA membership or pay a non-member participation fee of $20; and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) as determined by the college they are enrolled at. Student-athletes have a maximum of four years eligibility in the CBUSA Collegiate Singles Championship.
College Bowling USA serves as the national governing body of intercollegiate bowling by monitoring the eligibility of student-athletes, sanctioning intercollegiate competitions and conducting national championship events. College Bowling USA is funded by the American Bowling Congress and Women’s International Bowling Congress.
