2002 NCABA/WDCAWBA Senior Tournament highlights

Over 300 area senior bowlers participated in the 21st annual NCABA/WDCAWBA Senior Tournament at AMF Marlow Heights on the weekends of Oct. 19-20 and 26-27, 2002. Averages ranged from 105 to 214, with ages from 55 to 93. There were 67 teams, 172 doubles, 318 singles, and 245 all events entries. The handicap was 100 percent of 220, and the prize ratio was at least one prize for each eight entries. The prize fund totaled $8,341.50.

John Carney took home the most prize money with $210 ($32 team, $73 doubles, $79 singles, and $26 all events). Marjorie Stewart topped the women with $182 ($91 team, $60 singles, $31 all events).

All bowlers who rolled four consecutive strikes received a 4-Bagger emblem. All bowlers who scored a 200 game received a Senior Tournament 200 Pin. New bowlers to the tournament received the NCABA/WDCAWBA Senior Tournament Pin.

A total of 12 bowlers rolled one or more 600 series. George K. Davis (197 average) bowled the highest series of 666 (223-241-202). Ronald Simmons (214) had three 600 series (663-661-655).

Chester L. Cole (186) rolled the high game of 268, followed by Thurston Lewis (190), 264; Johnny Penn (184), 263; and John C. Carney (185), 254.

For the women, Hazel Wallace (182) had the high series (607) and game (229).

Mary Packo (105 average/180 game), Johnny Penn (263 game), and Chester L. Cole (268) earned ABC/WIBC 75 pins over average awards.

Charlie P. Harrison (189) rolled a 650 series to earn an NCABA 650-699 Silver Pin.
